Summer Training Courses

Summer Training occurs for 6 weeks during July and August. Due to the different duration of the courses offered, there are different intake times and number of intakes for each course. An example the Basic Training Course is 2 weeks in duration and thus has 3 separate intakes for the course. For Basic Aviation Course, since it is 3 weeks in duration, has 2 intakes for the course. Each intake begins at a different time and the squadron has no control over which intake your Cadet will be participating in. The cadet must be able to attend the entirety of the course and is only eligible for ONE course per summer.

There are a series of courses available for cadets to participate in based on their level in the cadets program.

Selection criteria

The Summer Training course application process is extremely competitive. As such, only qualified cadets that have regular, on-time attendance will be eligible for the process. It is important that you realize that every cadet may not be able to attend a Summer Training Course.  Unfortunately, there are not enough positions available to allow every cadet to attend.  Cadets will be selected based on their efforts throughout the training year.  In addition to attendance rates, the following factors will be considered for each cadet when being selected for Summer Training.
Discipline, Dress, Drill & Deportment
Our senior cadets, Civilian Instructors and CIC Officers are always observing these important elements with all cadets. They are an integral part of the Air Cadet Program and these fundamentals are the guiding principles upon which constitutes a good citizen. It is not uncommon for a cadet who has seniority with 'time-in' to be bumped by a newer cadet who has the same attendance record but has impeccable discipline, dress, drill & deportment! Always do your best at cadets.
Optional Activities & Physical Fitness
Cadets who are passionate about the program have the inner-drive to succeed. They go the 'extra mile' to make it happen and build team spirit. They embrace all facets of the training program and thrive to accomplish more. Challenging optional cadet activities, such as the band, marksmanship or drill team, augment the training syllabus. Cadets who participate are recognized and rewarded at zone, regional and national competitions. Another key to cadet success is good physical fitness. Optional cadet activities and physical fitness results are taken into consideration when determining summer course selection. Consideration will be given to a cadet’s participation in the Squadron’s support training activities such as Drill Team, Poppy Campaign, Fundraising activities, etc.
You can be certain that a cadet who embraces the cadet program will have an advantage for Summer Training selection. Also note that Summer Training selection is not a guarantee up to and including the scheduled day of departure. If there is reasonable justification, the Commanding Officer has the authority to withdraw a cadet from attending Summer Training. Be sure to adhere to the Cadet Code of Conduct and follow the Cadet motto until the last day of training.
