243 Squadron is jointly funded by the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Air Cadet League of Canada.
The Air Cadet League of Canada provides funding and support for certain activities undertaken by the squadron. It is represented at the squadron level by a local Sponsoring Committee, which is made up of volunteers who are often parents of cadets. All parents are expected to contribute time throughout the year in support of the squadron. Responsibilities include fundraising, public relations, operation of the canteen, special events, and most importantly, the provision of transportation whenever cadets participate in activities away from the squadron headquarters (i.e. flying, gliding, competitions, survival exercises, parades, etc.). The 243 Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is an incorporated non-profit society. All members of the SSC and parent volunteers must be screened through a Criminal Record Check. All parents are welcome to the SSC meetings and are welcome to become members of the SSC. |
Only screened members of the SSC are eligible to vote during meetings, while all parents are encouraged to attend.
