SSC Assessments

The Air Cadet program is funded by the Department of National Defence and the basic program is offered at no charge.

The Air Cadet League of Canada is a civilian organization that augments and partners with the Department of National Defence to enhance the cadet program by supplying powered aircraft, gliders, band equipment, training courses and many other activities. In order to fund these items, the Squadron asks for an annual SSC assessment of $195.00 per cadet payable upon enrollment at the start of each year.
2022 - 2023 SSC Assessments
There are very few costs to join and participate in the Air Cadet program.  In order to keep the costs as low as possible there is an expectation of participation in fundraising activities.

There is an annual SSC assessment of $195.00 per cadet at 243 Ogopogo Squadron. Payment can be made on initial enrollment and at the beginning of each training year (September) thereafter.  Payment can be made by cash, cheque, or Interac e-transfer.  Families that may experience difficulties in payment or financial hardship should speak to a member of the Sponsoring Committee. No Cadet will be turned away from the program due to financial reasons.

Cadet uniforms and nearly all cadet activities are provided at no additional cost to the cadets including 2, 3, 6 and 7-week summer training courses (in fact cadets are paid a $60/week training bonus while at summer training!).

Canadian Tire JumpStart Program

The 243 Ogopogo Squadron Sponsoring Committee has partnered with the Canadian Tire JumpStart program to assist any families who may need a helping hand in paying the yearly Assessment fee. The JumpStart program exists to give all children and youth the opportunity to participate in physical activities. Therefore, it is important when you apply to include information regarding the physical fitness aspect of the cadet program.

Instructions to apply can be found here.

Once again, we want to emphasize that no cadet will be turned away due to financial reasons. If the JumpStart application is declined, please continue to be in conversation with the Sponsoring Committee. We will ensure your son/daughter continues to benefit from the cadet program, regardless of your circumstances.
